For the 1973 model year a number of engineering changes were made and, although Triumph only ever referred to the Stag as one model, enthusiasts have since introduced the terms Mark 1 and Mark 2 for cars produced before and after the 1973 model year change. The most notable differentiating feature when introduced in 1973 was the addition of twin coachlines to the body. The overdrive option was included as a standard fitment for all manual cars from 1973. Its model years run from 1973 to 1977.
