The second generation Legacy arrived in 1993 in Japan and in 1995 in North America. The sedan was coded BD and the step roof wagon BG. Passenger airbags were not available until this generation arrived in North America in 1995. The Outback began in 1995 as a trim package and in 1996 gained more ground clearance and a raised roof line. In 1996 Subaru made all wheel drive standard on every vehicle for North America, and 1999 marked the 30th anniversary of Subaru in America and the last year of this generation there. Its model years run from 1994 to 1999.
