Saab Formula Junior

Automobiles

The Saab Formula Junior was a car built in 1960 by the Swedish car maker Saab. In 1960 the Saab 93F was being replaced by the Saab 96 and a new 841 cc engine was developed, and the competition and testing departments of Saab wanted to try some new ideas, which led to these Formula Junior race cars that surprised the motor racing world in the late autumn of 1960. Instead of a multi-tubular spaceframe chassis, Saab chose an advanced aluminium monocoque with a plastic nose cone, and a bored-out horizontal 950 cc three cylinder two stroke engine developing some 95 horsepower.
