The Saab 9-2, sometimes referred to as the Saab 9-1, was a small family car proposed in February 2010 for addition to Saab's production line by 2014, under the company's then new owner, Spyker Cars. Some commentators regarded the project as a pipe dream. It was thought to have been developed in a joint venture with another, probably European, car maker. Those who had seen the design reported the same teardrop shape as the Saab 92 of 1949 to 1956 but with a futuristic look and a front similar to the new Saab 9-5, and Managing Director Jan-Ake Jonsson said the model would probably not use the global GM Gamma platform. In August 2009 it was speculated that the small Saab would be based on the Saab 9-X Biohybrid concept shown at the 2008 Geneva show, to compete with premium small cars such as the Mini. The article records a proposal only, and no production car.
