The intermediate based 1969 Grand Prix began to take shape in April 1967, shortened by three inches from the previous Catalina wheelbase, with a unique body and Pontiac's longest ever hood on a 118 inch wheelbase. It had a Command Seat wraparound cockpit style instrument panel, sold over 112,000 units, almost four times the full size cars of 1968, and led General Motors to build the Chevrolet Monte Carlo in 1970. Its model years run from 1969 to 1972.
