The Gran Fury returned for 1980 after a two year absence as a downsized pillared four door sedan on the R platform, nearly identical to the Chrysler Newport and aimed at dealers who wanted a lower priced full size model and, above all, at police and taxi fleets. It was sold in Base and Salon versions. Sales were slow, mainly because of poor fuel economy and an outdated platform, and it ended midway through 1981. Its model years run from 1980 to 1981.
