The downsized Gran Fury returned for 1980 after a two model year absence, available only as a pillared four door sedan on the R platform and sold in Base and Salon versions, the Salon adding a vinyl roof, better cloth and chrome side trim. Very popular with fleet customers, especially police departments, it achieved the highest sales of any R body that year at 18,750 cars. The Michigan State Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol ordered substantial numbers.
