The Pininfarina Ethos 3 is a city car concept that completed the Ethos series of the early 1990s, shown at the 1994 Turin show to demonstrate the design house's diversity. Its body is only about 3.2 metres long, hardly longer than a Fiat Cinquecento, yet it keeps the width of a mid-sized car, so two rows of three seats fit, with a narrower middle seat. The driver's seat can slide across the cabin, which allows the car to be driven from the left, the right or the centre. Story Cars says the compact packaging relied on a tiny 1.2 litre three-cylinder two-stroke engine from Orbital and a lightweight aluminium body that kept the weight to 780 kg. Car Design News notes that, unlike the first two Ethos cars, it was designed after exterior designer Stephane Schwarz had left Pininfarina to join Nissan Design Europe. The concept now resides with Pininfarina alongside the other two Ethos cars.
