The fifth generation Pajero was first teased on 29 May 2026 and unveiled on 2 September 2026, the return of the nameplate after a five year hiatus. It has body on frame construction, as in the first and second generations, based on the sixth generation Triton and L200, and features the Super-Select 4WD system. Sales in Japan are due to begin on 17 December 2026, after a gap of five years since the fourth generation ended its global run in 2021. Its first model year is 2026.
