The eighth-generation Mitsubishi Fuso Canter was first introduced in Japan in November 2010, with sales starting in Europe in 2012, where it also succeeded the Mercedes-Benz Vario after its discontinuation in 2013. The line-up includes chassis from 3.5 to 8.55 tons gross with cabins 1.7 metres (S) or 2.0 metres (W) wide, and Canters of 5 tons gross or less have independently suspended front axles. The world engines of 96 to 129 kW introduced in Europe with the seventh generation are used worldwide, with a 6-speed Duonic dual-clutch transmission as an option, and the Eco-Hybrid combines a 110 kW diesel engine with a 40 kW electric motor-generator. In late 2017 the first pure electric eCanter was delivered to its customer in New York City. On 19 October 2020 Fuso introduced a facelifted version in Japan that incorporates the former Canter Guts. In Malaysia it was introduced in 2017 and is still in production.
