MG Y-type

Automobiles

The MG Y-Type was a four-door saloon built by MG in England from 1947 to 1953, with a limited run of open four-seat tourers. Gerald Palmer styled it by taking a Morris Eight Series E bodyshell and adding a swept tail, rear wings and MG's upright grille, and it sat on a separate chassis with an independent front suspension designed by Palmer and Jack Daniels, the first on a Nuffield product and among the first on a British production car. It was powered by a single carburettor version of the 1250 cc XPAG engine from the MG TB, giving 46 bhp, and its interior used leather and burr walnut. A total of 8,336 Y-Types were built across the YA, YT tourer and YB versions, and its chassis later underpinned the MG TD sports car.
