The MG M-type Midget, also called the 8/33, was an affordable small sports car built from April 1929 until 1932, launched at the 1928 London Motor Show when sales of larger MG saloons were faltering. It used the four-cylinder bevel-gear overhead-camshaft engine of the Morris Minor and Wolseley 10 with a single SU carburettor giving 20 bhp, on a lowered Morris Minor chassis. It cost less than twice the cheapest Morris Minor, set the template for many British sports cars to follow and was the first MG to wear the Midget name. Early cars were made at Cowley, and production moved to Abingdon in 1930.
