The second generation Mariner of the 2008 model year was a thorough redesign, though it remained on the Ford CD2 platform of the outgoing generation. It was unveiled at the South Florida International Auto Show on 6 October 2006 as a new direction for the Mercury brand. The 2009 Mariner and Escape were unveiled at the 2008 Washington show. Ford ended production in October 2010. Its model years run from 2008 to 2011.
