Arriving with the 2005 update to the Escape, the first generation Mercury Mariner sat above both the Escape and the Mazda Tribute in the compact sport utility group. It was the first Mercury with a four cylinder since the Cougar was dropped in 2002. For 2006 the lineup was expanded with the Mariner Hybrid. Its model years run from 2005 to 2007. It was a sibling of the Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape.
