Mercury Eight (third generation)

Automobiles

For 1949 Mercury introduced its third generation design as its first postwar line, with a substantial modernization of the chassis as Ford retired its long running transverse leaf suspension and torque tube drive axle. For 1950 the Mercury Monterey debuted as the flagship version of the Eight, and for 1951 minor styling revisions came with the Merc O Matic three speed automatic. Its model years run from 1949 to 1951.
