The first-generation Mazda Titan was presented in 1971 as the successor to the two-ton Mazda E2000 and was replaced by the second generation announced in October 1980. It was a tilt-cab truck on unusual box-section chassis rails, carrying over the 2.5-litre XA diesel engine of the E2000, with a 2.7-litre XB diesel rated at 81 PS in the heavier-duty Titan T2700 and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine also offered. A 1977 facelift brought a new grille, bumpers with integrated fog lights, bigger squared-off turn signals, the new MAZDA corporate logo in place of the round M, and a 3-litre diesel making 86 PS. This generation was the basis of the Australian Ford Trader 3-tonne truck, was built under licence in South Korea by Kia as the Kia Titan, and shared its chassis with the Mazda Parkway minibus.
