The Maserati Shamal is a two-door grand touring coupe built by Maserati from 1990 to 1996 and named after the shamal, the hot summer wind of Mesopotamia. It was the marque's flagship grand tourer, powered by a newly developed 3.2 litre twin-turbocharged V8 that gave 326 PS and sat above the V6 Biturbo coupes in performance and price. Marcello Gandini and Maserati's own styling department designed it, and it kept the Biturbo doors, interior and basic bodyshell. Maserati claimed 270 km/h. It was introduced in Modena on 14 December 1989, the last model announced under Alejandro de Tomaso, and factory figures give 369 built.
