The Maserati Karif is a luxury coupe built by Maserati between 1988 and 1991, designed to be luxurious but also sporty and agile. It was built on the same shortened chassis as the Zagato-bodied Maserati Spyder with a fixed notchback roof added, and used the powerful AM473 version of the Biturbo engine, a 2.8 litre 90 degree V6 rated at 285 PS, with a ZF five-speed manual gearbox and a Ranger limited-slip differential made by GKN. Maserati claimed a top speed of over 255 km/h. Alejandro de Tomaso announced a run of 250, and only 221 were sold. The name comes from the Karif, a wind that blows across the Gulf of Aden.
