The Maserati 3500 GT (Tipo 101) and its Spyder (Tipo 101/C) were two-door coupé and convertible grand tourers built by Maserati from 1957 to 1964, and the company's first successful series production grand tourer. Chief engineer Giulio Alfieri adapted the 3.5 litre long-stroke six developed for the 350S endurance racer, and the car used many British components such as Girling brakes and a Salisbury rear axle. Carrozzeria Touring's 2+2 superleggera body, nicknamed Dama Bianca, was chosen for production after the March 1957 Geneva Salon, while the Spyder body was drawn by Michelotti for Vignale and shown at the 1959 Paris salon. Eighteen cars were built in 1957, and front disc brakes became optional in 1959.
