Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules

Military Aircraft

The Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules is a medium-size four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft, the comprehensive update of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules. It replaces the earlier model's engines with Rolls-Royce AE 2100 D3 turboprops driving six-bladed composite propellers, adds a digital flight deck with head-up displays for each pilot and needs a smaller crew. The launch order came from the Royal Air Force on 16 December 1994, and the aircraft first flew on 5 April 1996. It is the only Hercules model still in production, with 500 delivered to 26 operators in 22 countries as of March 2022. Early development was slowed by software integration problems and a stall characteristic that required modification of the aircraft.
