The second generation Lexus SC, Z40, was previewed by the Sport Coupe concept that Lexus displayed at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, a V8-powered convertible that signalled the replacement of the first generation SC 300 and SC 400. The production version, the SC 430, a sports coupe-convertible, debuted at the New York Auto Show in April 2000 and went into production in 2001 as a retractable hardtop convertible coupe with a V8 engine. Power came from a 4.3 litre 3UZ-FE V8 with variable valve timing and a five-speed automatic transmission, the same engine as the UCF30 Lexus LS. The V8 produced 215 kilowatts and could take the coupe from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds. The generation lasted until 2010.
