The Hudson Utility Coupe was a three-passenger coupe utility that Hudson built from 1937 to 1942, sold first as the Hudson Terraplane Utility Coupe and as the Hudson Utility Coupe from 1939. It could serve as a car or a light truck, because a 39 by 48 inch steel box on sliding rails rolled out of the trunk behind a chain-supported tailgate, with a half-ton load rating. A 212 cubic inch L-head six of 96 horsepower gave it the most power in its class, on a 117 inch wheelbase, and the 1940 cars gained independent coil-sprung front suspension. Hudson did not restart production after the war.
