The Hudson Super Six was a Hudson car introduced on 16 January 1916 and built until 1928, then revived as a rebadged Essex for a single year in 1933 and again from 1940 until 1951, the last cars being called Super Custom Six. The 1916 Series H was an early performance car whose 288.5 cubic inch six made 76 horsepower, against 40 for the same-sized Model Six-40, thanks to a crankshaft with integral counterweights designed by Howard Coffin, which let it reach 3,400 rpm. Super Sixes set a 24-hour record of 74.9 miles per hour, a transcontinental record from San Francisco to New York and a 102.5 miles per hour stock-car mile at Daytona Beach.
