Honda launched the first-generation Prelude, chassis SN, in Japan on 24 November 1978 and gave it its world debut two months later at the 1979 AutoRAI in Amsterdam; in Japan it was sold only through the newly created Honda Verno dealerships. The four wheel independent struts, brakes and engine were borrowed from the first generation Accord, but the chassis was all new, and it was the first Honda to offer a power moonroof as standard. Honda produced 313,000 of them from 1978 to 1982, and more than 80 percent were sold outside Japan. Each model year of this generation has its own page.
