Honda brought in the CVCC-II engine on the Prelude in 1980, which used a catalytic converter and a number of other refinements that made it drive more smoothly. Solaire Corporation of Santa Ana, California is believed to have converted about 250 Preludes into convertibles between 1980 and 1982, selling them through US Honda dealerships with the full factory warranty, under the marketing name Honda's 450 SL. The sources used for this page record no other change to the car itself specific to 1980.
