Honda Monkey

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

Honda built a line of minibikes called the Z series, or Monkey Bike, whose model numbers start with the letter Z. Monkey bike is the name for small, low powered motorcycles that Honda introduced in the 1960s, the first being the Z100 of 1961, an original prototype built as a children's ride at the Tama Tech amusement park in Japan. Later Monkeys were designated Z50, with a 49 cc four-stroke engine of 4.5 horsepower, and the Z50 series was discontinued in August 2017, followed by the Monkey 125 in 2018. This site lists a page for every model year in the span covered here, each focused on what changed in that year, grouped into 3 generations: the Z100 and early Z50 (1961 to 1973 model years); the Z50J to the final Z50 (1974 to 2017 model years); the Monkey 125 (2019 model year onward). Each year page links to its generation, to this model page, to the previous model year and to Honda.
