Honda Gold Wing (first generation, GL1000)

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The first-generation Gold Wing, the GL1000, was shown to dealers in September 1974 and to the public the following month at Cologne, and went on sale in the United States and Europe in 1975. Its characteristic layout was an SOHC flat four engine, cooled by liquid, with a gear driven generator that turned in the opposite direction to offset the engine's torque reaction, and shaft final drive. It was issued naked, without saddlebags, luggage rack or windshield, which created an opportunity for aftermarket makers such as Craig Vetter. Honda sold over 97,000 GL1000s in the United States from 1975 to 1979. Each model year has its own page.
