Honda launched the first-generation Accord on 7 May 1976, offering a three-door hatchback with 80 PS, a 2,380 mm wheelbase and a weight near 900 kg. It stretched the platform of the earlier Civic and used Honda's CVCC engine technology to satisfy tightening emission rules. A four door sedan was added on 14 October 1977 in Japan and a year later in the United States. The Accord sold well on its moderate size and fuel economy and was one of the first Japanese sedans to offer cloth seats, a tachometer, intermittent wipers and an AM/FM radio as standard. Each model year of this generation has its own page.
