The FV103 Spartan is a tracked armoured personnel carrier developed for the British Army as the troop-carrying member of the CVR(T) family designed by Alvis. It carries up to seven people including three crew and is armed with a single 7.62 mm machine gun. It looks almost the same as the FV102 Striker and was used less for ordinary infantry than for specialist teams such as mortar fire controllers, anti-aircraft missile teams and reconnaissance parties. Nearly 500 entered service from 1978, powered by a 4.2 litre Jaguar petrol engine, and it was replaced from 2009. An anti-tank version, the FV120 Spartan MCT, carried Milan missiles. Spartans were later donated to Ukraine and sold to Latvia.
