Fuji TACOM

Military Aircraft

The Fuji TACOM, from the Japanese for multi-role small UAV, is an air-launched unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Fuji Heavy Industries. The Technical Research and Development Institute began the programme in 1995 to study an air-launched multirole UAV for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and Fuji built six UAVs, a ground control station and the kit for an F-4EJ to carry and command them between 1995 and 1998. Its first fully autonomous flight was on 7 May 1999, and the first programme ended in 2001 after 22 flights on the F-4EJ and five independent flights. A second programme from 2004 to 2011 enlarged the drone and made it compatible with the F-15J. It has a foldable delta wing, a single turbofan engine and a low-observable design.
