The Fuji T-1 Hatsutaka was a jet-powered trainer designed and built by Fuji Heavy Industries, Japan's first jet-powered trainer and its first aircraft with a swept wing. The Japanese Defense Agency announced the requirement in early 1954; the first aircraft, the T-1A, used an imported Bristol Siddeley Orpheus turbojet and the T-1B that followed used the Ishikawajima-Harima J3. More than 200 had been intended for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, but a change in trainer needs and the purchase of the American Lockheed T-33A cut the total, and only 66 were completed. The last was retired from service on 3 March 2006 after the Kawasaki T-4 replaced it.
