The first generation Windstar was released in March 1994 as a 1995 model, more than a year ahead of the third generation Chrysler minivans, which let Ford cut into their sales. It was sold beside the Aerostar through the 1997 model year. The 3.8 liter V6 was the sole engine in GL and LX at launch, and a 3.0 liter V6 became standard on base models in October 1995. A revised 1998 Windstar followed a shortened 1997 model year. Its model years run from 1995 to 1998.
