The Puma program was initiated in 1993, when Ford executives discussed the possibility of doing a 2+2 coupe based on the Fiesta chassis. The first iteration of the design, called the Lynx concept car, was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1996, and the production car was launched at the 1997 Geneva Motor Show. It was based on the Mark 4 Fiesta with new engines, a new body, stiffer suspension and a wider track. Its model years run from 1997 to 2002.
