The first generation EXP shared its unibody construction, 94.2 inch wheelbase, front wheel drive and four wheel independent suspension with the Escort. At 50 inches tall and 14 feet long it was longer and lower than the North American Escort, with a sharply sloped windshield, prominent wheel arch lips and a dog leg hatch with flat glass. Its coefficient of drag was 0.37. Its model years run from 1982 to 1985.
