New for the 1983 model year were base seats with knitted rather than solid vinyl, and optional Recaro style sport seats with mesh headrests. The shifter was moved rearwards and the automatic shifter dropped the unusual dogleg pattern in favor of a straight line arrangement, as for the regular Escort and Lynx, and the gas tank was enlarged to 13 US gallons. A five speed manual transmission option was available. There were no notable changes to the exterior aside from new wheel options.
