The Datsun Type 17 was a small car made by Datsun in Japan from April 1938, and the last of the line of small Datsuns built before Nissan turned its resources to military materials for the Second Sino-Japanese War. Sources disagree on when it ended: Nissan says production in Yokohama continued until January 1944, while the historian Alan Bent says it finished in late 1938 when civilian car production stopped. It was almost identical to the Type 16 but had a wide vertical bar in the middle of the front grille and a simpler interior. Mechanically it matched the Type 16, with a 16 PS engine driving the rear wheels through a three-speed gearbox for a top speed of 80 km/h.
