The Datsun Type 16 was a small car produced by Datsun in Japan in 1937 and 1938. It was almost identical to the Datsun Type 15 that came before it and could be told apart outside only by details on the bonnet and changes to the bonnet mascot and the Datsun logo, while the interior was more sparse. Mechanically it was the same as the Type 15, with a 16 PS side valve engine driving the rear wheels through a three-speed gearbox for a top speed of 80 km/h, and it was offered in several body styles. The first car left the line in Yokohama in April 1937, and production continued until the Datsun Type 17 was released in April 1938.
