Datsun Type 12

Automobiles

The Datsun Type 12 was a small car built by Nissan in 1933 under the Datsun marque, which DAT had used for its line of small cars and which continued after DAT was absorbed into Nissan. It was basically similar to the 1932 Datsun Type 11 but had a larger engine. The reason was Japanese law of the time, which did not require a licence to drive a car with a small-displacement engine. The class limit was first 500 cc and was raised to 750 cc in 1933, and Nissan answered with a more powerful engine and a new name, the Type 12. The Type 12 was superseded by the Datsun Type 13 in July 1934.
