Datsun Sports

Automobiles

The Datsun Sports, called the Datsun Fairlady in Japan and Australia, was a series of roadsters that Nissan produced in the 1960s and the predecessor of the Z-car in the Fairlady line. It competed with the European MG, Triumph, Fiat and Alfa Romeo sports cars. The first generation began with the 1959 S211, a handbuilt car with fibreglass bodywork and a 988 cc engine of which only 20 were built, followed by the SPL212, the first Datsun sports car imported to the United States and the first to bear the Fairlady name after the Broadway musical. The second generation, the 310 series, appeared in 1961 and was series produced as the Datsun 1500, 1600 and 2000 Roadster until the SR311 ended in April 1970. The actor Paul Newman started his racing career in one.
