The Malibu began in 1964 as the top-line subseries of the mid-size Chevrolet Chevelle, a rear wheel drive intermediate. It was offered as a hardtop sport coupe, a convertible, a sedan and a wagon, with a Malibu SS performance package in the first two years that was replaced in 1966 by the Chevelle SS-396. The Chevelle Malibu was restyled for 1966 and again lightly for 1967. Its model years run from 1964 to 1967.
