Production resumed for the 1964 model year on the Chevelle platform. The second generation El Camino was similar to the Chevelle two door wagon forward of the B pillars and carried both Chevelle and El Camino badges, but Chevrolet marketed it as a utility model and the Chevelle's most powerful engines were not available. It was updated with the Chevelle in 1965, 1966 and 1967, and a 396 V8 was added in 1966. Its model years run from 1964 to 1967.
