The Riviera was redesigned for the 1966 model year, retaining its cruciform X frame, powertrain and brakes, but with a new body longer, wider and 200 pounds heavier. The new front wheel drive Oldsmobile Toronado shared the Riviera platform, and a year later so did the front drive Cadillac Eldorado, the Riviera retaining the rear drive layout. Its model years run from 1966 to 1970. It kept rear wheel drive while the Oldsmobile Toronado and the Cadillac Eldorado went front drive.
