The M5 is the high performance version of the 5 Series engineered by the motorsport arm of BMW, BMW M GmbH, and built since 1984 with periodic interruptions, a sports saloon and in some years an estate. The first was hand built from late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1, making it the fastest production saloon of its time. M5 models have been made for every generation of the 5 Series, with gaps from 1995 to 1998 and from 2023 to 2024. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 7 generations: the E28 (1984 to 1988); the E34 (1988 to 1995); the E39 (1998 to 2003); the E60/E61 (2004 to 2010); the F10 (2011 to 2016); the F90 (2017 to 2023); the G90/G99 (2024 onward).
