The first generation M4, the F82 and F83, had its technical specifications released by BMW on 25 September 2013. In February 2017 BMW announced the M4 Competition Package, and in 2016 it introduced the production version of the M4 GTS, a track focused version of the standard M4 coupe with a limited run of 700 units. Starting from the 2019 model year BMW removed the carbon fiber driveshaft to fit an Otto Particulate Filter. Its model years run from 2014 to 2020.
