Bertone Birusa

Automobiles

The Bertone Birusa is a concept car that the Italian design house Bertone built in 2003 on the aluminium chassis and V8 engine of the BMW Z8. It was shown at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show as a pure styling exercise, never meant for production and not offered to BMW or any other maker, simply a show car to win new projects. The 4.9-litre DOHC V8 gives 298 kW (400 bhp) through a six-speed manual gearbox. Its roof-hinged carbon fibre gull-wing doors, a large glass moonroof that doubles as the rear window and stows electrically in the boot, a voice control system and a night vision system were its showpiece features. The car was paired with a Segway HT scooter of Bertone's own design that rolled out of the boot down a ramp formed by the folding tailgate.
