Austin Gipsy

Automobiles

The Gipsy was Austin's cheaper replacement for the Champ, designed to compete directly with the Land Rover and aimed at both civilian and military buyers. Unlike the Land Rover its bodywork was steel, and it had independent suspension all round using Flexitor rubber springs developed by Alex Moulton. It was built from 1958 to 1968, with about 21,208 sold, and was assembled from kits in New Zealand. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the Gipsy (1958 to 1968).
