The Ambassador is the large family car that Austin Rover, the British Leyland subsidiary, launched in March 1982, a heavily updated version of the Princess with the hatchback that, according to one company manager, the Princess should have had right from the word go. Only the doors and inner structure were carried over. It bridged the gap between the smaller Morris Ital and the Rover SD1, sales were low, and it was discontinued in March 1984 with 43,427 cars built. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the single generation (1982 to 1984).
