The AMC Javelin was restyled for the 1971 model year. It followed the pony market segment trend to bigger, beefier vehicles, and the 1980 looking Javelin design was purposely made to give the sporty car individuality. The wheelbase was increased by one inch to 110 inches, height was dropped, and the width was increased by 3.31 inches with a wider rear track. Starting with the 1971 model year the AMX was no longer a separate two seater line, and evolved into a premium high performance edition of the Javelin. Its model years run from 1971 to 1974.
