For 1967 the Ambassador was an all new design for the full size AMC line, built on a platform four inches longer than the new Rambler Rebel's 114 inch wheelbase. The Rambler name and its economy car image would be eschewed to give the car a clean slate in a market that was turning away from economy cars. However, sales of the redesigned models were disappointing due to customer confusion caused by the entire company's abrupt upmarket push. Its model years run from 1967 to 1968.
