Alvis Speed 20

Automobiles

The Alvis Speed 20 was a British touring car made by Alvis in Coventry between late 1931 and 1936 in four variants coded SA to SD. The SA was bodied by Charlesworth as a four-door sports saloon, by Cross and Ellis as a four-seater sports coupe or tourer, or as a chassis for coachbuilders such as Vanden Plas, and about 400 were made. The SB, launched at the October 1933 Motor Show, had a new cruciform-braced chassis and independent front suspension on a single transverse leaf spring, with a new gearbox that was the first all-silent type with synchromesh on all gears. In October 1935 a 3.5-litre car joined it and became the Speed 25.
